Shibu Shop

Sibling shop is a coined word meaning a workshop for siblings, and is a support program developed by the US sibling support project. Originally intended for siblings of children with disabilities from 8 to 13 years old, it can be easily applied to smaller or larger children.

The basics are 8 to 13 years old because there is no big difference in concentration and understanding of things in this age range from the developmental stage of the child, and every child can enjoy the program.

The first Shibu shop was held in 1982, and as of April 2014, there are about 380 in the United States, about 40 in Canada, Central American countries such as Guatemala and Costa Rica, and New Zealand, and there are more than 400 Shibu shops worldwide. I have.

  1. It provides an opportunity for siblings of children with disabilities (children with special needs) to meet colleagues in the same position in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

  2. Provide opportunities for siblings to discuss the worries and joys that are common to siblings of children with disabilities (children with special needs) with their peers.

  3. It provides siblings with an opportunity to learn how their peers are coping with the situations that siblings often experience with children with disabilities (children with special needs).

  4. It provides an opportunity for siblings to learn about the various things that can happen with siblings with disabilities (special needs).

  5. Provide parents and professionals with the opportunity to better understand the common worries and invaluable experiences of children with disabilities (children with special needs).

It was uploaded to youtube by Mr. Meyer of the US sibling support project, and it is a video of two programs. It's 12 minutes and 39 seconds.

The first is a program called "Brazelton on Parenting television series" that introduces the Shiv shop in New Haven, Connecticut.
The second one (starting from 4 minutes and 45 seconds) is a program called "ABC News 20/20", which introduces the Shibu shop in Puyallup, Washington.
